Curious as to what everyone uses for online bookkeeping software for their business.

I've been using Saasu for nearly 6 years now - I have 4 company files (actually, 3 and a corporate trustee). Very happy with it.

Was actually thinking of trying Xero for my new BusinessChat business, just so I've got something to compare with - but I'm not sure I've got the time and I'm already up to speed with Saasu, so it's the obvious choice.

Back in my IT days used to support MYOB / Quickbooks so swore never to go near them once in business.

Have been using Xero from the start. Hadn't heard of Saasu at the time but would be open to it for future endeavours.

+1 for Xero. Haven't tried anything else. I like having the flexibility and ease of use.

+1 for Sassu too. Have been using it for over 5 years now. At time extensively reviewed it against Xero for our requirements in consultation with my highly experienced book keeper. At the time it was a tad better for what we needed (less of a big smoke mass market product as well). As mentioned it handles multiple divisions better, and can be executed as a neat billing / payment system which integrates into Eway very well.

Agreed - really like the simplicity of the payment processing when integrated with eWay - online payment link gets inserted into my invoices automatically, client clicks on link and pays online using credit card, Saasu marks the transaction as paid and auto-reconciles it. Works really well and I've had good feedback from my clients about it too.

I'm pretty sure Xero can do something similar though.

We're in early stages still. So, I've compared many of them and planning to go with Xero. My accountant recommends MYOB, but has some clients using Xero, so happy to use it.

Xero is a must. I have five businesses/ companies and unfortunately need to suscribe for each, but it is simple to use and easy to measure my data and profitability. The rest are far behind.

    Cheers Ivan

As a total noob it's another +1 for Xero for me. We were going to use MYOB as that's what my old company used but our new accountant pulled a face and said take a look at Xero.

We partner it up with Harvest and do all of our estimates, project tracking & Time Sheets via Harvest which in turn copies invoices raised and paid direct to Xero.

It's so easy that we haven't bothered taking on a bookkeeper, I have been able to do the lot, from invoicing and reconciliation to Super and Payroll. Granted there's only 3 of us but still, I'm a fan!

Another one for Xero. Chosen purely because it is a platform supported by our accountant. So it makes it easy. They can 'administer' the accounts without our involvement. When it comes to tax time, they are able to log in and get the reports needed.
I dont need to send them any info, unless they have a specific enquiry.

Admitedly this is an exceptionally easy business. I think our busiest month had 10x transactions and nil invoices.

I've seen lots of accountants market themselves as Xero users. Mine logs in and does my BAS for me without me having to do anything.

For those using Saasu, how have you found your accountants handling of it?

I told my accountant I was using it, gave them a login to access my account, they took a look and said "no problem".

It's all pretty standard stuff, using largely the same language all such products use, so accountants or bookkeepers would pick it up really quickly, especially for your typical small business whose books are really quite simple.

It's only when you get to the more advanced features such as inventory management where the differences might start to appear.

You'll find there are great incentives for accountants to market Xero to their clients. For example it's common that they may receive their subscriptions for free. My bookkeeper equally supports Xero & Sassu, so no problem logging in to do his routine work. My accountant doesn't need to login much, but no issues when he does at end of year. Log in, generate the needed reports and its a done deal.

It's like asking a dentist which toothbrush they recommend :D Accountants really shouldn't be pushing any one particular system.

I'm using Quickbooks Online, moved from Xero, the main reason was at the $25 price point in Xero I was restricted in reconciling transactions, QBO is not limited in this area, which was important to me.

Being a former public practice accountant, I've worked with most of the above software aside from Saasu, and I can honestly say for the money, for most small businesses, QuickBooks online provides amazing value.

It has the same capabilities as the above to allow your accountant to access the file, review transactions and then complete the BAS all without you needing to lift a finger.

One of the things I like most about the QBO software, is the ability to set up rules to recognize re-occuring transactions/suppliers. (i.e. you buy fuel from a a Coles Express servo, set up a rule, and then every time you shop there, the software recognizes this and allocates it to the appropriate account code).

The app is also particularly good, for writing invoices, and has a functionality to remind customers, that they have an outstanding invoice from you.

All for $10-$15 a month for the basic or essentials package!

Xero is not that great. QBO is appalling and MYOB just sucks.
I offer software for free as part of our services. Its not a retail product but costs us under $15 a month and we offer that as part of our service, It integerates directly with professional software and has so many features - Customer and supplier login to YOUR sofware, cloud and multi currency, payroll features and data feed, inventory and so much more.

Those functions are basic functions and are nothing new. Can a client log into your software and pay you too ? Data streams and learned transactions are nothing new...
